The Prospector Tour is our most family-friendly snowmobile adventure and an excellent choice for first-time riders. Located near Denver, this guided trip invites families, individuals, and groups to explore Colorado’s most dramatic scenery at a comfortable pace. Guests who prefer to double up and ride two per sled will enjoy the Prospector Tour, which is especially popular with families and younger children.
Your experience begins with a simple instructional session covering snowmobile operation. Our guides will review the controls and allow you to practice on a designated track, ensuring everyone feels comfortable before heading into the mountains. Once prepared, the group sets off along forested trails that gradually open above treeline, rewarding riders with sweeping views of Mt. Massive and Mt. Elbert — two of Colorado’s tallest peaks and among the most iconic summits in Colorado’s expansive Rocky Mountain range.
Guided Snowmobile Tours in the Colorado Backcountry
As the Prospector Tour continues, the ride leads into meadows and open bowls high on the Continental Divide. The terrain is wide and welcoming, ideal for beginners and families seeking a safe but scenic introduction to backcountry snowmobiling in Colorado. The wide-open landscape at this elevation is unlike anything you’ll find on a groomed resort trail — it’s a genuine wilderness experience made accessible for riders of all skill levels.
For younger guests, child-size snowmobiles are available free of charge at the base area, allowing kids to try snowmobiling in a safe, supervised environment before the group heads out on trail. A professional photographer is also on site to capture lasting memories of your adventure — so you can focus on the ride and let us handle the photos.
The tour reaches its high point at Chicago Ridge, topping out at 12,500 feet above sea level. After taking in the panoramic views and crisp alpine air, the ride descends to a historic miner’s cabin where guests can warm up and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate — a cozy and memorable touch that makes the Prospector Tour one of the most popular options for families visiting Colorado in the winter.
